Linden Homes, Sherford, Devon

Special detailing profiles and traditional mineral renders from Parex are helping to create the timeless classical appeal to new homes at a major development which aims to create a “new community” on the outskirts of Plymouth, Devon.

Linden Homes South West is one of several companies involved in an overall scheme  at Sherford where around 5,500 new homes, together with community facilities and commercial ventures, will create a new “Community for the 21st Century” aimed at providing all the facilities required for modern living.

Ranging from two-bedroom starter homes through to five-bedroom detached properties, the Linden Homes development aims to meet demand in all sectors of the new homes market. Individually designed, the homes have a classical appeal.

Many of the homes feature substantial rendered elevations using Parex Monorex mineral renders and all have detailing created using profiles from the Parex range.

Exeter-based project architect Dunn Marina specified through-coloured Parex Monorex GM renders in two colours - BL10 Brilliant White and G00 Natural White – which was spray applied to the blockwork substrate by specialist applicator Choice Render Ltd, of Bury, Greater Manchester. Parex TV10 high strength mesh was used to reinforce the render at known stress points such as window and door openings.

Special detailing which makes a major contribution to the classical “kerb appeal” of the properties was achieved using a variety of purpose-made Parex Profiles for the cornice and string courses, together with the door and door surrounds. Decorative parapet copings incorporating a specially designed cavity closing solution to prevent water ingress were also supplied.

The profiles are relatively light in weight due to their fire retardent EPS core and are supplied to site ready-to-install with a coating of Parex Maite which gives a natural and robust appearance ready to receive the decorative Parex coating to complement the main render finishes. By using Parex Profiles, speed and ease of installation is gained as they are installed post build of the external skin, taking them off the critical path and due to their lighter construction are easier to handle and significantly reduce the need for mechanical lifting often associated with traditional cast stone alternatives.

In addition to providing affordable new homes, the Sherford development will also incorporate four new schools and community facilities including a leisure centre, town hall, library and extensive community park.
